How Do You Get There?

You can reach Glacier Bay National Park only by boat or by air. It is also a popular stop for cruise ships.

  • In July 2021, my family and I took a cruise in Alaska.
  • We flew into Anchorage and boarded the cruise ship there (see below map).
  • From there, the cruise took us through Haynes, Glacier Bay National Park, Juneau (capital city)
  • We disembarked at Seaweed in Anchorage at the sourthern tip of Alaska
  • Cruise ships offer numerous trips through various parts of Alaska
  • Cruise journeys typically are for 5-7 days although longer ones are offered too.

Alaska is one of nature's most awe inspiring places. It is a cornucopia of glaciers, wildlife, geology, marine life and vast wilderness. Approximately one quarter (4.6 million acres) of Alaska's glaciers exist within national parks.

It is a place where nature turns on her kaleidoscopic canvas.

Rafting on Chilkat
River

Enjoy a scenic float down the Chilkat River through the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, home of the world's largest concentration of Bald Eagles. Be immersed in the Alaskan wilderness, floating the silent river. There are no rapids (white water) on the river, so, it makes for a very relaxing float. Depending on the flow of the river, the rafting lasts about 1 1/2 hours.

Black Bear Watching in Kechikan

In Kechikan, you’ll be watching for wild bears in search of spawning salmon and ample berries. You’ll be surrounded by magnificent stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar trees. You will walk on safe, protected raised boardwalks, and you can expect to have an intimate viewing experience.
