You can reach the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hilo Island by air only from inside Hawaii. There are no ferry connections between the main Hawaiian islands.

Why is Volcanoes National Park Awe Inspiring?
Volcanoes National Park is is Awe Inspiring because of a couple of jaw dropping factors. Firstly, Hawaii boasts of two of the most active volcanoes anywhere in the world. Secondly, the kind of cliff formations, sea arches that the flowing lava has created when it met the Pacific Ocean is literally out of this world.

Where Nature Inspires Awe!
Active Kīlauea Volcano
Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is currently erupting, with lava visible as a glow within the Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The eruption, which began on December 23,2024 has been active on and off throughout 2025, with lava fountains reaching up to 1000 feet during some events.
Gigantic Lava Cliffs
This impressive sea arch was cut into the cliff of an ancient lava flow from about 550 years ago. At the end of Chain of Craters road, walk a short distance along the road to see Hōlei Sea Arch. This stark lava rock formation is about 90 ft. (27.4 meters) high and extends from the steep sea cliffs into the Pacific Ocean.
Walking on Lava Mounds
Visitors to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park can walk on lava mounds, particularly in areas like the Kilauea Iki Trail.The Kīlauea Iki trail leads hikers into an old volcanic crater, offering the experience of walking on the solidified lava lake floor.
