VOYAGES OF DISCOVERY
Behold The Big Five of African Wildlife!
Lion
Not for nothing is he called the King of the Jungle. On an average the male lion weighs a whopping 190Kg. The Magnificent mane they sport is a sign of dominance. The mane also has an important function - it protects the neck and head from injuries during fights. Learn more why the lion is such a feared adversary by all other animals and man too.
Leopard
This amazing cat while being a nocturnal hunter is also a superb climber. They can shin up a tree like a monkey often carrying its prey much heavier than its own body weight higher and away from other predators. The Leopard is a recluse and hunts alone. They are fast felines too and can run up to 58 Km per hour.
Cape Buffalo
The adult African Cape Buffalo is a fearsome animal to be confronted with. Weighing anywhere between 300 and 900 Kg, these massive animals are notoriously short tempered. But they are not all brawn, while having weak sighting and hearing power, they are possessed with exceptionally sharp memories. They can remember trouble causers years later.
African Elephant
Weighing up to 6000 Kg (6.6 tons) and measuring up to 3.3 meters (10 feet) tall at the shoulder, the African Elephant is the world's largest land mammal. It carries a highly dextrous trunk, long curved tusks and massive ears. Their highly developed sense of memory allows them not only remember lost loved ones but also to harbor grudges.
Rhinoceros
The African White Rhinoceros is a "near threatened" specie and needs to be protected. These colossal creatures can weight up to 3 tonnes. The Rhino horn is made up of the same material as human finger nails. Rhinos have poor eye sight but a highly developed sense of smell. Rhinos love rolling around in mud to give themselves a mud coat and keep themselves cool.
