How Do You Get There?

You can reach the Kruger National Park by road, rail and air both from inside South Africa as well as neighboring countries.

I flew into Johannesburg from New York via Zurich - a 19 hour flight duration in total
We drove East from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park which has multiple gates from which to enter (see below map).

We drove for 5 hours and entered from the Phabeni Gate.
Kruger has convenient transport hubs by rail, road and air from Johannesburg as well as cities inside South Africa.

Where Will You Stay

Kruger National Park offers both adventure style camps as well as family oriented lodges at designated areas inside the park. Bookings have to be made well in advance as the demand is high particularly during peak season.

We Stayed in the Umbhaba Eco Lodge just outside the park.

The Eco Lodge is situation at 10 Kms distance from the Phabeni Gate of Kruger National Park
The lodge is situated just 1 km outside Hazyview on the R40, between Hazyview and White River.

Game Drives

Our Game Drives were by a Land Cruiser with open sides for sitting inside and viewing game.

Game Drives were by Land Cruiser with open sides for sitting inside and viewing game.
Drivers are also guides who are familiar with the trails by which vehicles are allowed.

Game Drives are generally early in the morning, after breakfast and in the afternoon.
Driver guides know exactly what time animals, particularly big cats can be sighted during drives.

Safari is a word used to describe a trip to observe wild animals in their natural habitat. You may be observing the wild animal from your Game Drive Vehicle, or otherwise on the ground. Bushwalks are a heart pumping activity in the jungle available in some private game reserves.
